Mike moved to Maine from Washington, D.C. and joined the firm more than twenty seven years ago. After serving a clerkship with the Honorable John H. Pratt of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, Mike investigated and prosecuted securities fraud cases for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Since coming to Maine, he has focused his practice on commercial litigation, professional liability and antitrust law, representing individuals, small businesses, and major corporations, in federal and state courts.
Mike has a very active federal court practice. His significant cases have included a $3,000,000 jury verdict in a defamation case; a defense jury verdict on behalf of General Motors Acceptance Corporation in a lender liability case; a $1,700,000 jury verdict for a local waste-to-energy facility in a design/construction case; a multi-million dollar settlement for a consortium of Maine municipalities in a breach of contract case; and a major monopolization case in the telecommunications industry that settled after a one month jury trial.
Mike graduated from Hamilton College (1969) and received his law degree from George Washington University Law School (with honors, 1975) where he was elected Order of the Coif. He has been selected for inclusion in the latest editions of The Best Lawyers in America for commercial litigation and legal malpractice law and New England Super Lawyers for business litigation, professional liability defense, and antitrust litigation. Mike has chaired the firm's ethics committee for a number of years and chaired the Maine Supreme Judicial Court's Advisory Committee on the Rules of Professional Responsibility. He is a frequent lecturer on legal ethics. He and his wife, Lucretia, live in a solar home in the Capisic area of Portland.
